1967

With the introduction of asphalt for road making, crushed granite was no longer required and exports ceased from Guernsey in 1967. A total of 4,147,975 tons of granite was exported to Britain.

1973

Channel Island granted Associate status of the EEC

1975

Oil crisis leads to bankruptcy of many tomato growers

1978

Queen Elizabeth II re-visits the islands

1980s

Major international banks move to the islands.

1982

QEII Marina built. 

Roman wreck "Asterix" found in St Peter Port harbour mouth by diver Richard Keene

1995

Prince Charles commemorates 50th anniversary of Liberation

1999

Millennium celebrations and large street parties in St Peter Port & St Helier

2000

Electricity submarine cable linked to European grid

2008

Guernsey abolishes corporation tax except for regulated entities (10%) and utilities (20%)
